How I became a travel addict
For the first 25 years of my life, the trips were family trips to Italy, Spain, and England. Since I am 10 years old, I have traveled to Austria with a youth group during the summer holidays. During this time, the village which we visited became my second home. When I was 25 years old, I had my first flight in my life. Destination: Turkey for a two-week All-In holiday. I loved traveling by plane. We had booked 14 days, all-inclusive. We explored some other places there, and I loved it much more to explore different places than “burning” at the beach the whole day. One year later, I flew to America to the former host family of my girlfriend.
My first long-range flight. America was a fantastic experience, especially having the chance to live with local people and not just visit it as a tourist. I noticed that this is my way of traveling. In the next three years, not many trips came along. In the middle of 2014, I changed my job. Knowing that there will be some business trips coming up, I was already 15 weeks abroad in the second half of that year. Traveling became part of my job, and with that again also of my life. I used this opportunity to explore many new places and even started planning trips to new places. And out of a sudden, I visited the next ten years of my life another 35 countries in different ways and for various reasons. Seeing all the beauty on this planet and meeting, so many amazing people are why I want to see more of this fascinating world.
I have been umpiring in Badminton since 2003. What started as a necessary step for the club quickly became my 2nd family. Since I am allowed to go on tournaments abroad, the family grew a lot, and I hope will grow even more in the future. I will take you on my journey on umpiring…
